STRUCTURE

Given the workshop’s ambitious objective and its strongly multidisciplinary cohort of participants (many of whom have not met), each speaker is asked to prepare a brief presentation based on the following themes:

IF YOU ARE FROM THE ENGINEERING/PHYSICS community, please address theme questions or topics:

  • What are the spatial and temporal scales of your problem/measurements?

  • What useful knowledge do you hope to extract or “mine” from your problem/data?

  • What are your data analysis needs?

IF YOU ARE FROM THE MATHEMATICS AND STATISTICS community, please address theme questions or topics:

  • How do you deal with the issue of multiplicity of spatial and temporal scales in the patterns hidden in data?

  • How do you handle uncertainty and imperfections in data?

  • How do you ensure the patterns uncovered are robust, especially under conditions of limited and/or missing data?

This workshop is by-invitation only, comprising 30-40 participants.  Our aim is to have a robust discussion – a conversation – and not a series of lectures! Hence the program will be designed to maximise time for this.  There is no registration.  This event is fully catered (morning and afternoon tea, lunch and dinner).  We look forward to seeing you soon!

During the workshop, please turn your mobile phone to silent, and refrain from checking emails/messages until scheduled breaks.
